Peking Duck Christmas Dinner - A Christmas Story Recipe

Christmas Dinner Table Setting Try something unconventional for the holiday dinner table this year. In the movie, A Christmas Story, Ralphie and family head to the neighborhood Chinese restaurant for Peking Duck when their perfect holiday turkey goes to the dogs. Not the traditional meal they were hoping for, but hilarious and memorable nonetheless!

Serving a special beverage for your preschooler is one way to add a new twist. While the adults are enjoying, well, adult beverages, the kids can enjoy this sweet lassi - a traditional Indian beverage that you can make plain or with a favorite fruit.

How to Make a Holiday Lassi Drink

Step 1:

Put the following ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth and the sugar is dissolved, about ½ minute.

1 cup plain yogurt
2 Tbsp heavy cream
2 Tbsp sugar or honey

Step 2:

Add about 5-6 ice cubes and blend until cubes are crushed and drink is frothy.

Step 3:

Pour the drink into mugs and enjoy! This lassi recipe makes about 2-3 servings.

Lassi Recipe Notes and Variations

You can prepare the lassi ahead of time and refrigerate. Re-blend the lassi in a blender just before serving.

Fruit Variation:
Add fruit for a fruity and flavorful holiday lassi. Mango lassi is common but you can other fruits such as bananas or strawberries. Or, add orange juice. Add about one banana, four strawberries, or ¼ cup orange juice to the original recipe above.

If your preschooler likes a little spice, add a pinch of cinnamon or cardamom to froth of the lassi.
